Blood Tests during COVID-19
Please find details below of booking service for bloods starting from 18th May 2020:
From Monday 18th May, the Pathology department will be operating an appointment system to provide blood tests for ALL patients which will ensure social distancing.
This service is available at the outpatients departments of The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, St Margarets Hospital in Epping, & Herts & Essex Hospital in Bishops Stortford.

Patients will then provide the following information:
- Date of birth
- Which hospital would you like the appointment
- What is your preferred day?
- Would you prefer morning or afternoon?
- Is it a fasting test? (Yes/no/don’t know)
- Is it an appointment for a Glucose tolerance Test (GTT)? Yes/No
- Do you have your blood test request form? (if not the hospital will print one for you)

Please note that the best way for patients to make a blood test appointment is to use the PAH link provided above and follow the instructions to email.
If your test is urgent and you are unable to contact the pathology department to make an appointment, please visit Princess Alexandra Hospital outpatient reception, Zone B, location B5 and take a ticket. Patients with scheduled appointments will be seen first, and you may be asked to wait, with social distancing measures in place.
Coronavirus test results:
If you have been tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) the hospital will contact you directly with your result when it is available – Please DO NOT call the surgery.
Test results requested via GP:
Please Note: It is the Patient's responsibility to phone the surgery for results.
The reception team can give out test results between 10.00 and 18.00
The reception team will pass the doctors comment regarding your results to you if you phone in at this time. They can only give you a result once the doctor has viewed the result & commented on it.
We have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and our receptionists will only discuss test results with the person to whom they relate. We cannot discuss your results with anyone else unless you have given prior permission for the release of this data which we will record. In this instance please complete a 'Third Party Consent Form'

An outpatient phlebotomy service is available on all three Trust sites,
from 7.00am - 4.30pm at The Princess Alexandra Hospital
from 8.30am - 4:00pm at St. Margaret’s Hospital
from 8.30am - 4.30pm at Herts and Essex Hospital
Children’s phlebotomy in child friendly room is available at The
Princess Alexandra Hospital by appointment Monday to Thursday 1.30pm - 2.30pm
Fasting: If you need to fast before having blood taken it will be stated on the form given by your GP - if unsure please ask. If you are fasting, please have plain water only from 8pm the evening prior to your blood test or 12 hours prior.
During the Coronavirus Outbreak, there will be a temporary reduction in opening times for GP patients to attend for X-Rays.
**Non-urgent imaging will be postponed wherever possible**

Saturday & Sunday 9am-1pm
Herts & Essex Hospital:
Location: Radiology Dept- Haymeads Lane, Bishops Stortford, Herts, CM23 5JH
Monday-Friday 8:30am-12:30pm & 1:30-4:30pm
St Margarets’s Hospital:
Location: Radiology Dept- The Plain, Epping, Essex, CM16 6TN
The Radiology Department will advise us when normal service can be resumed
Cervical Smear Results
Generally take up to 6 weeks to be received at the surgery.
Those tested in the surgery will be ready the same day, those needing further investigation at the hospital will take up to 4 days.
